MIKE SMITH

I got my motorcycle license in 1975 but started riding around 1970 or so. Besides riding my interests are studying and teaching Wing Chun Kung Fu. I am an instructor at a local school and have achieved level 8 - (one level above black belt).

I am a carpenter by trade and I manage a local construction company that specializes in insurance work.

I joined OMRA a little over a year ago and this fits in nicely with my life choice as a warrior in the Kung Fu tradition and also in the Shambhala tradition. It is my path to help the weak, and those that can’t help themselves.

I heard about the OMRA many years ago, when I was still living in Vernon. Back when people thought I was a figment of Red's imagination. I moved to Penticton in 2000 and joined OMRA in 2001. The year it became a non-profit society. I enjoy being involved with the group. It's the kind of thing that puts a lump in your throat and a tear in your eye, especially when you see the happiness in the recipients faces when we hand over toys, food and money. I don't ride, so, I'm getting really tired of being Tail End Charlie. I'd like to borrow a back seat for some of our events.  Hint-Hint, Wink-Wink, Nudge-Nudge.

I joined OMRA in 1998 to meet fellow bikers,  contribute to the  enjoyment of being out on the road, and be more visible in a positive way. I've been riding a motorcycle as far back as I can remember. My first Harley was a 1942 / 45;  foot clutch, hand shift. There is no words to describe what it was like to own a bike like that. FUN!!!  In 1981 I sold this bike to a friend  and bought a basket case 1960 Panhead. 1 year later I put insurance on this bike and I never looked back. I kept this bike on the rode until 2001. In that year I put my panhead to rest and purchased, in February a 1975 shovelhead from Kamloops Harley Davidson .  I guess you could say it was a birthday present to me.There is no better way to see the country and to meet great people. .  Bar none!!

fellow ladies that ride:  join me on the breast cancer run in july.  see details on the "HERE'S THE SCOOP" page AT http://www.rydership.8m.net
